The Covid-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on pretty much every industry in one way of another, whilst some have been damaged enormously, some have prospered. I have seen businesses that had record years already on the order books for 2020 have their entire life’s work decimated in just a few short months. At the same time, I have seen businesses taking on so much work they are bursting at the seams.
In the 2008 recession, the job market was hit because companies had no money to spend on new hires, but this is different. Even those that are booming through the Covid-19 pandemic may be reluctant to hire, not because they are nervous to take on new heads, but because they are uncomfortable hiring someone that they may not be able to interview face to face. Even where companies are able to manage this, will good candidates want to leave a safe job in the current climate?
At The Clay Partnership in association with Nevard Roland, we are lucky enough to be seeing plenty of work, due not only to the diversity of markets we work in, but also because of the way we have always worked with our clients. We spend time with the hiring client and specifically the hiring manager to really understand the profile of the manager and the team, to profile the prefect hire “as if we could sculpt them from clay”. This enables us to look for more than qualifications and experience, we ensure cultural and personality profile alignment.
Once we have identified a small selection of the prefect candidates we perform a video interview to give a flavour of the candidate’s personality and approach to compliment their CV and background. The work we do means that we cover a lot of the early parts of the interview stages quickly and effectively before moving to the final stages.
At this point, we have a range of solutions depending on the hiring companies needs. As with everything we do, we never apply a one size fits all approach, we tailor our offering every time to make sure we offer value for money and a successful assignment outcome.
As for the candidate wanting to make the move, we have worked in these markets and been in the shoes that our candidates have been in, we have been faced with the decision to move when a market has been challenging. This means we can work with the candidate to alleviate any concerns and to ensure that the move is successful for both parties. We are not interested in making a quick buck, we want to ensure that both the client and the candidate work with us for many years to come.
